Israel approves the construction of 900 housing units in East Jerusalem

Israel approves the construction of 900 housing units in East Jerusalem, proving that Israel wants colonisation, not peace!

On August 4th, 2011, Israel’s Ministry of the Interior approved the construction of 900 housing units near the settlement district of Har Homa in East Jerusalem. The new construction will extend the parameters of Har Homa which is located near the Palestinian town of Bethlehem in the West Bank. The prior announcement of the intent to build new apartment units had been strongly condemned.

Each announcement of the building of new neighbourhoods on Palestinian land in the Occupied Territories annexed by Israel incites indignation among Palestinians and criticism on the part of the international community.

This time the context appears to be a particular one. For three weeks Israel has been shaken by social unrest motivated by the exorbitant cost of housing in the country.

The question of Israeli colonisation is an undercurrent of the social unrest. Many of the demonstrators have denounced the massive investments of successive Israeli governments in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
