Discussion with Haya Abu Warda and Maya Yavin, Zochrot

June 19, 2026, 7:00 p.m.
Rögergasse 24-26, 1090 Vienna

In April 2026, Zochrot published “Return During Genocide: Time to End the Nakba.” Zochrot is an activist group comprising displaced Palestinians and Jews living in Israel. In their work, they prioritize the right to return as the key to the decolonization of Palestine. They view the realization of the right to return for all displaced Palestinians as the core of “true justice in Palestine, [… as …] the pursuit of freedom, self-determination, and life. […] Justice for Palestinians includes the obligation of the oppressors to undergo fundamental change and to participate in dismantling colonial rule and building a just and egalitarian society,” they state in their paper.

The Gaza Strip, the area where we are witnessing an ongoing genocide, is a product of the Nakba. Many Palestinians living there have been displaced multiple times within their own country. The aim of the most recent publication, which will be presented during the discussion, is a practical one: “As we commemorate the Nakba of 1948 and Zionist colonialism continues to bring about displacement, dispossession, and destruction, we discuss the return of displaced Palestinians to the places and villages of their ancestors,” and how this can be realized.

The event will be held in English.
