Dear Prime Minister Dr Golob, Dear Foreign Minister Fajon, Dear Minister for Interior Affairs Poklukar and Dear Minister for Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Papič!
On the occasion of Slovenia’s recognition of Palestine, we, the undersigned members of the academic community and civil society urge you to take all necessary steps to enable Palestinian students to begin or continue their studies in the Republic of Slovenia. Currently, especially in Gaza, the Israeli genocidal war is making it nearly impossible for Palestinian students to pursue their education.
1. Admit as many students as possible from Gaza to start or continue their studies in undergraduate, masters and doctoral programmes conducted in English at the beginning of the upcoming acadmic year. All accepted students should be given the opportunity to complete their studies in Slovenia.
2. Establish a system of financial, academic and housing assistance for Palestinian students. This should include comprehensive support measures to help them succeed.
3. Sign an agreement with the Ministry of Higher education of Palestine and encourage the University of Ljubljana to form partnerships with Palestinian universities to facilitate a long-term exchange programme for students who wish to study in Slovenia .
4. Facilitate and expedite the process of obtaining residence permits for Palestinian students, actively assisting them throughout the procedure.
